Apply

As the tribes are given their portions of the promised land they need motivation to go forward.  Joshua 18:3 has Joshua compelling them in this way, “How long will you put off going in to take possession of the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?”  Do you ever need a reminder to motivate you to move forward into an area that seems like it could be difficult?

Joshua 17:14 shows an early complaint from a tribe who doesn’t feel like they got enough.  Joshua proves a worthy leader when he tells them “If you are a numerous people, go up by yourselves to the forest, and there clear ground for yourselves in the land…”  We should find contentment in the promises of God and must realize that if we want or need more then he has given us hands and feet to accomplish it.

Yield

Lord, help me to find contentment in what you have provided.

Extra Discovery

Why did these tribes not remove the people completely as told?  What was the consequence of this partial obedience?

Revelation

A sneaky part of the enemy’s plan to deceive, divide and destroy is to trick us into partial obedience by deceiving us that one sin is greater than the other.  For instance, Israel was told by God to eliminate the people in the areas of the promise.  He did this to keep them from falling victim of idolatry and thus polluting their relationship with Him.  Satan somehow convinced the people to leave them and let them be slaves.  That led to a division in the relationship between God and the Israelites.  God knows best even when it seems difficult!
