Idol’s lure but don’t deliver on any promises.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 119:60 - I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands. 61 Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions. 62 I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations.
Read - Judges 10
God grants two additional judges to bring peace to Israel but the people fall away again…serving false Gods…idols. God tells the people to see if their idols will help them in the time of trouble. Of course, they won’t so the people seek to return to God. Could their be an easier path? Sure! Don’t get lured into idolatry. Idolatry isn’t simply golden or wooden statues. It is anything that causes us to love and rely upon God less.
Lord, when I have fallen into sin help me to have a heart for repentance.
Chapter 10 is left with the people looking for a Savior. This is the same posture taken at the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament. The people dwelled in darkness and waited for a light. That light was Jesus.
Often, we expect God to serve us…even when that service comes on the heels of spiritual neglect. To Know God is to know that he desires more from and for us than that. He desires an intimate and reliant love that puts us in His will and way. Out of that posture, we can serve Him and receive His promises and blessings.
