Right and wrong isn’t judged by the eyes but by The Lord.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 119:1-3 - Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. 2 Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. 3 They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.
Read - Judges 17-18
Theft, Idolatry and much more. These are the shortcomings of chapter 17 alone. Israel busily did what ‘was right in its own eyes’ because it had rejected The Word of God and the Kingship of God. Rather, as in the example of Micah’s house, we see people hiring Levitical Priests to serve idols.
Chapter 18 begins a story that will be concluded in tomorrows’ reading. It shows a people that are not content in the promised land that God has given them. The grass always looks greener on the other side indeed. Learning contentment in our faith journey is a vital component of growing and maturing as a disciple of Jesus.
Lord, help me to be content in Christ alone.
Re-read the commandments in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 to consider God’s warning about idolatry.
Just as with the Golden Calf (Exodus 32), the people begin carving and setting up idols. It isn’t long before they are doing more and more evil in the eyes of God. It is the actual reverse of our triangle where the people busy their hands creating something evil (instead of serving God). This begins to erode their love for God by dividing their hearts. Ultimately, they lose the knowledge of God, His Word and His Will.
