3:16 Plan - Week 22 - Day 5 - Year 1 - Judges 19-21

The depths of depravity are shown the longer we wander from the Word of God.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Psalm 119:4 You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully. 5 Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! 6 Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands.

Read - Judges 19-21

Chapter 19 shows a Levite (from the Priestly tribe) taking a concubine.  This shows how far things have gone.  Israel’s tribe that was to be most pure (so they could be used to organize Worship of God) had lost their way.  It gets worse as men from another tribe of Israel commit murder.

Chapter 20 outlines a Civil War that ensued due to the mess of Chapter 19.  Who is winning at this time in the history of Israel?  Satan has them chasing their own tail.  God would intervene but not without dire consequences.

Chapter 21 graciously ends this season of reading where it seems all we hear is bad news.

Lord, give me ‘Your eyes’ so I can see how best to live.

Extra Discovery

Why would a Levite have a concubine anyway?

The darkness of these closing chapters of Judges reveals what man is capable of when they ‘do what is right in their own eyes’.  Israel had fallen into a deceived, divided and destroyed nation in just a few short generations from the Exodus.  From here, they would begin to call out for a King to rule them.  If they had Known their past, they would have known that God desired to be their King.  This lack of knowledge is the linchpin in what would become another level of disobedience and mess.
