Idols are powerless compared to the Mighty God we serve in Christ.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Leviticus 26:1 - You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.
Read - 1 Samuel 5-7
The Ark of God was holy and not to be trifled with…even the demonic false gods of the Philistines could not stand against it. In the same way, all false idols in our lives need to be crushed and removed from the Holy place in our hearts that is reserved for the One True God.
The Philistines seem to show more reverence for God and His judgments than the Israelites at this time. Israel needed Godly leadership and God provided Samuel for just such a purpose. He would bring God’s Word to the forefront for a season.
I will give reverence to your holiness.
Dagon was a false God in the area:
The nation of Israel was once again deceived into thinking they could manipulate the results by ‘using’ their God and his Ark. This deception led to ultimate destruction for many Israelites in battle. If they would have focused upon God’s revealed Word to them (The Law) they would have known that it simply didn’t work like this…
