When the good guys waste time fighting the good guys, evil wins.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 59: 9 You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress. 10 In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me.
Read - 1 Samuel 19:1-17, Psalm 59, 1 Samuel 19:18-24
David is blessed with a friend (Jonathan) and a wife (Michal) who protect him from sure death. The value of close relationships and care for one-another is clear. What relationships will God call you to protect and how will you respond?
Psalm 59 is one of many ‘heart-cries’ from David toward God. God can handle our angst and concern. When we let these things go by giving them to God we can move forward.
Lord, when I sense evil pressing in on me help me to trust in You and Your strength. Help me not to retaliate in sinful ways.
Some have misconstrued David and Jonathan’s relationship to be some type of same-sex attraction. Here is a good explanation of the true sense of their relationship: https://www.gotquestions.org/David-and-Jonathan.html
Jonathan is used of God to speak peace to his father (Saul). Saul was ready to murder David until he was reminded of what David had done for him. Jonathan appealed to his father’s heart so that Saul would retract his plans of evil intent. Evil actions always flow out of evil hearts. Scripture says our hearts are desperately wicked without Christ and this serves as an example.
