Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm57: 1Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.
Read - 1 Samuel 22, Psalm 57, Psalm 142, 1 Chronicles 12:8-18
David continues to pass time as he waits to see what God will do. Timing is vital in our journey to follow Christ and that can be hard in the microwave age we live in.
He protects his family but cannot protect the priests (except one) whom Saul has slaughtered. God begins to build an army around David and the one thing they have in common is a discontent with the direction of the nation. Discontent isn’t always bad, if it is inspired by God and leads to God-honoring change.
This series of events inspires two Psalms. David was regularly inspired to cry out to God. Sometimes the cry was in anguish and other times it was in celebration. Always, it was in praise.
Lord, give me a heart that chooses to praise you even when I’m in a cave-like situation.
Enjoy this great Third Day song of worship taken from Psalm 57:
Consider David’s predicament in Psalm 57. He is hiding in the cave awaiting orders on how he can serve God (God’s Creation being used to shelter him). He is reciting the truths that he knows about God to instill him with hope and faith (Knowing God). In the midst of this recital, he dwells on how his heart is confident in God thereby bolstering his love for God. This is a recipe for success in the Christian life! David is reliant upon God’s Holy Spirit and we must be too!
