3:16 Plan - Week 27 - Day 1 - Year 1 - 2 Samuel 3:6-4:12

Divisions breed conflict.  Unity brings joy.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

Psalm 119: 1 Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. 2 Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. 3 They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.

Read - 2 Samuel 3:6-4:12

Through more bloodshed, David is given the kingdom of Israel to add to his kingship in Judah.  First, Abner defects to King David but is killed in a vengeful act by the family of a man he had killed.  Next, Ishbosheth is slain by a few of his officers.  Although this is horrific, it was apparently used by God to remove sinful men from leadership and establish the rule and reign of David.

God is beginning to unite what sinful men had separated over the generations.  No matter how much separation you see in your life, God can unite!

Lord, I desire to have unity in my relationship with you and with others.

Extra Discovery

A deeper description of Abner and Joab’s bloody feud:

God had promised David the throne.  He could have been ‘let down’ when he found out that he was only king of Judah.  However, he waited patiently for God who provided him with the Kingdom of Israel as well.  Had David not trusted in his knowledge of God then he could have gotten ahead of God’s plan and messed up things ‘royally’.
