David’s first victory as the king of united Israel is over the mighty Philistines…not once but twice. Note that each battle Plan was unique. We must not expect to always see God at work in the same old routine. As Our enemy morph’s, so must we.
David begins the establishment of houses of worship in Jerusalem. We learn that at least part of the reason for the death of the men in yesterday's reading was due to the Levites not performing their God-given duties. When servant leaders shirk their serving, they and others pay a price.
Lord, help me to find joy in serving precisely!
Interesting that David used the name Baal rather than El when naming this spot after a victory. It is uncertain as to why but with David being ‘a man after God’s own heart’ we shouldn't jump to idolatrous conclusions:
When the enemy invaded, David went to the stronghold for safety and didn't come out till God told him to do so. The stronghold was a place of protection, prayer and waiting. Waiting for what? A word of knowledge from God before David obediently served Him.
