Psalm 119:29 Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.

Read - 1 Samuel 8-10

The people reject God’s Leadership and ask for a King so they can be like the other nations.  Yes, the other nations that God had told them to defeat and stay away from…this is idolatry in its physical form.  Even today, we must guard against putting other people on a pedestal and placing our hopes upon them.  Sure, God uses people but He is the One that saves and provides.

Saul would be the first king of Israel.  He had many attributes that we would see as good.  However, he wasn’t a man led by the spiritual.  God can use him and does so but Saul will ultimately be ruled by fear and emotion not unlike his actions as Samuel first tells the people about him…he hides in the baggage.

Lord, You are my King and I will act like it.
