3:16 Plan - Day 4 - Week 29 - Year 1 - 2 Samuel 16:15-17:14

A clue: when advice given includes blatant sin, it is not from God and will not end well.

Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word

1 Kings 3:9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil.

Read - 2 Samuel 16:15 - 17:14

Absalom surrounds himself with many counselors.  None of the advice seems very good.  Some want him to succeed in overthrowing God’s true king (David).  Others are plotting for his demise.  When you life is lived with lies and injustice you may not have a good direction to turn to find wisdom.  He and all of Israel’s troops prepare to pursue David.  We can see that this is going to end badly.  Pray that you will have the spiritual eyes to see when you are on a path towards destruction.

Lord, I want to hear and follow Your wisdom.  Help me to know when the voice I hear is false.

Extra Discovery

When hearing two competing forms of advice we must discern which one (if either) lines up with God’s will.  A helpful scripture for that is Hosea 14.

Absalom didn’t know God or God’s plans.  He was consumed with his own prideful planning.  Absalom seemingly loved only one thing - himself.  This young usurper could only serve himself.  He fought for what he wanted and that would put many in harms way.
