When your enemy is within your family, there is no joy in victory. Let peace prevail in your home.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Lord, give my the ability to lead with peace and truth in my home.
Read - 2 Samuel 18:1-33
David’s army goes to war against his son Absalom’s army. David asks his men to spare Absalom in the battle but they sense the need to kill him to end the battle and regain the kingdom for David. Many lives are lost on the battlefield and in the forest and Absalom is slain. David grieves as a father even though he ultimately won the day.
Lord, in this war-torn world, help me to stay true to You and Your way.
The frailty of the kingdom seen in Absalom’s revolt was one of the things that led to the eventual divided kingdom:
Although David asked for Absalom to be spared, Joab sensed the need to kill him. What caused Joab to disregard the command of his king whom he revered? Surely, he was desiring to serve David and in many ways he did. Surely he loved him. It seems the issue lied in what Joab thought he ‘knew’ about the situation. He felt he knew better than David and killed his son as a result. As we act upon what we think we know, let’s be sure of it.
