Worship and sacrifice are both pleasing to God and ways of repentance.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Psalm 119:64 O LORD, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees.
Read - 2 Samuel 24:18-25, 1 Chronicles 21:18-22:1
David learns what will be the location of the Temple by following the Lord’s advice. This would be the place of worship and sacrifice for many generations but this first one is done by the king himself. The nation was being punished for their rash census and David is repenting and asking for God’s judgement to relent. God graciously pulls the angel of The Lord away. When we find ourself in trouble we should evaluate what we might have done to cause it and, if we find something, then we must turn from it.
Lord, I worship You today and choose to give my life as a living sacrifice.
Read Romans 12:1-2 to see how we are still to be a people of sacrifice.
At times, God will use others to speak to us. In this example it was a man named Gad. The Angel of The Lord spoke to him and he spoke to David. We mustn’t always assume that God will speak to someone else who will then speak to us but we must be open to it. We evaluate the words from others through the lens of scripture. If that checks out then we may have a message from The Lord that we weren’t able to hear directly due to sin or stubbornness or some other reason. As God’s desire is that we Know, Love and Serve Him, we must see that he takes great care in helping us to Know Him.
