Deported from their homes, the people are miserable. They are blended into a people who share very little in common with them…much less a similar spiritual system. Of course, most of the Israelites didn’t have a pure faith in their God anyways. Sometimes, it takes a great shaking like this to get us to begin to realize what is most important. Has your faith every been shaken by its surroundings and if so, did you allow that to serve as a ‘wake-up call’?
Lord, I will worship You and You alone.

Meaningless Misery is the title we use to describe eternal life apart from God. Our present life can also be miserable when we are separated from our loving God the Father. We read today about the Misery of a defeated people…proving that the choice of going our own way brings misery in the ‘here and now’ (Life on earth separated from God by choice) that will be replicated in the ‘there and then’ (Eternal Life separated from God known as Hell).
