Isaiah 29:13 -And so the Lord says, "These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.

In disciplining your own children, have you ever explained a coming punishment alongside an affirmation of your ongoing love? God is still doing the refining and disciplining of the loving Father while sending prophetic words of hope that are smattered through-out harsher words. This is a model for how we can deal with the hard-headed moments in our relationships. Yes, we may have to come down on a situation in order for it to change, but we can still show love and point to the ultimate desired outcome.
Lord, give me humility towards You - my maker and mender.

Isaiah 29:23-24 tells of a coming time when the people would wake up and recognize the holiness of God. This is the benefit of the pursuit of knowing God. Even in our thickheadedness, God wants us to know Him as He is - Holy. Maybe you are wayward in your pursuit of God and today’s text has been used to help you recognize your distance from Him. Return and live in awe of Him.
