In spite of our mistakes, God makes an everlasting Covenant with us through Christ.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Ezekiel 16:8 - I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.
Read - Ezekiel 15-16
In chapter 15 they are a useless vine and in Chapter 16 Israel is a proud prostitute. They have been blessed materially by God and they lay those blessings before false gods in worship. How often are we given something by our Creator only to claim it as our own or give credit to something else or even to turn it into an object of idolatry. God desires the affection of His creation. He sought us out while still in sin and lifts us up to amazing heights not so we can show ourselves special to others but so we can see Him.
Lord, I desire to be usable to You.
Read John 15 to see that the best use of a vine is to abide on the branch and bear fruit.
Ezekiel 16:60-62 speaks of a new and everlasting covenant with God. This is an announcement that the Messiah (Jesus) would come and establish His new Kingdom in the hearts of people. The bulk of these chapters outline the Marring of Sin and the separation from God it brings. However, these hopeful verses give hope to the hopeless. God isn’t done. He isn’t even surprised. His everlasting Covenant will offer a Mending of all this brokenness and bring us to Him forever!
