God often held back His anger in times before Christ came to make us right in His sight.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Ezekiel 20:11 There I gave them my decrees and regulations so they could find life by keeping them.
Read - Ezekiel 20-21
When we are in a position of stubborn disobedience we are likely not going to be able to hear the voice of God…even when we read the scriptures. As chapter 20 details, if we do hear Him then it may not be full of great news. Why? When we have lost our way it can sound pretty rough to hear news of how perilous the journey home will be. This is the good news of the gospel - Jesus did the perilous part of the journey.
Lord, I desire to stay close to You so I never have to ‘journey back’.
Ezekiel 20:9 shows that God sometimes acts to protect His own name. This gives great understanding of the biblical phrase ‘for My names sake’. Check out Isaiah 48:9-11.
Today’s Bible text reminds us of the goodness of Christ who came to Mend us by His Sacrifice on the Cross. Without the Cross, Ezekiel 20 would still be a reality today. We would be in judgement. With the Cross, we each have a golden opportunity to be Made New in Christ and Made Right in Christ.
