Apply

Only a few living souls are left in Jerusalem.  So much death and destruction!  Two souls mentioned by name are Jeremiah (the prophet) and Ebed-melech (the Ethiopian).  Jeremiah was faithful to God’s call on his life.  Ebed-melech trusted God.  Faith and Trust are God honoring heart conditions that lead to God honoring actions.

Yield

Lord, my faith is in You and my trust is in You.

Extra Discovery

Mormonism teaches that one of Zedekiah’s sons (Mulek) escaped and came to the Americas (Book of Mormon: Omni 1:15 & Helaman 8:21) .  These scriptures refute that. Be careful not to follow anything that blatantly refutes scripture.

Revelation

There Jeremiah sat in chains.  He had watched God do everything that He said He would do to Jerusalem.  With his life purpose seemingly fulfilled (to be a faithful watchman for Israel), what would happen now?  God rewards his faithfulness by freeing his bonds (by the hands of the Babylonians) and by giving him choice (stay with the new governor or come to Babylon).  God rewards those who faithfully seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).  The reward of the person who does this is that they experience the light of Christ even when darkness surrounds them, they experience the love of God even when He judges sin harshly, and they experience the abundant life God promises instead of the destruction of sin and death.
