The role of a priest was/is to present the people to God. Jesus fulfilled that role with His once-for-all-time sacrifice to cleanse us of sin. He now empowers us to live in priestly authority.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
1 Peter 2:9 - You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light.
Read - 1 Chronicles 6
Today’s short text deals with the bloodline of Levi - the priests of Israel. They were somewhat separate from the other people of Israel in that they had their own lands and very different job descriptions. This separateness is a good reminder of how God still uses our callings to separate us from our former ways and to separate us from our sin.
Lord, as you have called me to the priesthood of the believer I will walk in that calling.
What did a priest do?
Each of us has a calling to Obediently Serve God as we grow to Know Him and Love Him more. However, some have a specific calling to Obediently Serve Him in ministry leadership. In the Old Testament that was the role of the family of Levi as priests. In our New Testament lives that could be in church or para-church leadership or as a missionary.
