Jesus comes home.  Homecomings are always filled with much anticipation but sometimes have tough parts too.  People who watched you grow up may still remember you as before you did so.  This can cause some strife if plenty of God’s grace isn’t present.  Jesus’ hometown tried to kill Him because they couldn’t see that He had grown into and was more than just a man and was now walking in the full power of God’s Spirit as God’s Son.  They couldn’t see that He was already on His march towards the Cross where He would die for the world that included each of them.  They were stuck in the past.  Let’s make sure we never get that way.

Yield

Lord, I will learn and commit to Your Word so that I can proclaim Your Word.

Extra Discovery

In the Gospels, Jesus quotes from Isaiah 8 times.  In today’s text, He quotes from Isaiah 61 and fulfills Isaiah 9.

Revelation

Jesus quoted from Isaiah 60.  In that passage, there are poor, captive, blind and oppressed.  These are all spiritual conditions that have physical counterparts.  They are each part of the curse of sin that marrs our world and causes us to seek help in the saving power of Jesus.  Jesus mends us from those conditions with these replacements: freedom, sight and hope.  The choice of following Christ has amazing benefits!
