A love for God that makes all other emotions look like hatred would be a powerful and life changing thing.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Luke 14:28 - But don't begin until you count the cost.
Read - Luke 14:25–35
In the prior story, Jesus gave encouragement not to make excuses or delay your decision to follow Him. In today’s teaching He speaks to the other side of the equation: don’t make a surface decision that you haven’t weighed carefully. Why? Following Christ is an eternal decision with daily consequences that should be entered with seriousness.
Lord, I will take my relationship with You seriously.
Read Matthew 5:13-16 to remember how we are called to be the salt of the earth.
Jesus calls us to live in His Light (Knowing God), Love (Relationship to Him) and Life (Serving God obediently). Does this love require we hate everything else? Jesus actually calls us to love others the way that He loves us (John 13:34). Therefore this strong language is meant to show us the power of love God has for us and thus we can have for Him. A love so strong that all other things pale in comparison.
