Matthew 26:38 - My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.

Read - Matthew 26:36–46; Mark 14:26, 32–42; Luke 22:39–46

The disciples leave the Upper Room with Jesus and enter what would become the darkest period of their lives.  The trial of Jesus would begin in a garden.  It was soul crushing to Jesus (who was Fully God but also Fully Man) and it was so heavy upon His followers that they couldn’t stay awake.  When times seem dark, stick close to the Savior.

Lord, I will Abide with You even when times are difficult.

Extra Discovery

Jesus was captured in the Garden…a reminder of Genesis 3 and that all this problem of sin started in a Garden.

Many believe that the soul crushing weight of our sin is what weighed upon Jesus so heavily.  Whether that be it or not, the weight of the Marring of Sin is heavy and the greatest burden of humanity.  Hebrews 12:1 tells us that through faith in Christ we are able to lay aside that great weight and live in Freedom.
