There is great value in hard work whether it be church ministry or otherwise.
Pray The Word and Prepare for The Word
Acts 18:3 - Paul lived and worked with them, for they were tentmakers just as he was.
Read - Acts 18:1-18
Here we learn that Paul worked to make tents. He was also in ministry. We often use words to describe what Paul did as ‘bi-vocational’. That is, he had two jobs: ministry in the churches and work to make tents. Here is an even better word: ‘co-vocational’. His two jobs complemented one another. Yours can two. God honors the hard worker in scripture. He also honors work specific to the church. You can do both!
Lord, my occupation/occupations is part of my worship to you.
As Paul continued to travel we see that his ministry is more expansive than many would think and that it includes work to help provide for his own needs along the way. It is honorable for churches to bless their leaders and it is also honorable for a ministry leader to serve/work in ways that provide for their own needs. Which is more right? That is a very personal decision. Either way, God has Mended you and Morph’s you for Ministry. If your ministry is making tents, do it to the glory of God. If your ministry is leading worship, do that to the glory of God!
