Covenant Membership

The difference between “attendees” and “members” can be summed up in one word: COMMITMENT

Our MEMBERSHIP COVENANT is a commitment to CHRIST and the CHURCH FAMILY of WindCity Church.

Why do we have a Covenant? WE BECOME WHAT WE ARE COMMITTED TO.

“You are members of God’s very own family...and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.” Eph. 2:19 (LB)

“We are all parts of Christ’s Body, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other and need all the others.” Romans 12:4-5

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A MEMBER at WindCity Church?

We only expect our members to do what the Bible expects every Christian to do. In practical terms, and to promote our simple structure, we ask that each member commit to regularly attend and be a committed part of our Sunday Worship time, participate in a Missional Community and have a personal but accountable Devotional Life. Within your Missional Community you will plug-in to an area of service to include regularly sharing your faith.

WindCity Church desires to Equip people to Follow Jesus wherever you live, work and play. We know there are many people trying to go their ‘own way’ in this life. Proverbs 14:6 tells us that way ends in death. We believe there is only one Way to live life now and eternally and that is through Jesus Christ who is The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6). It is only through Him that we can be right with God now and forever. WindCity Church desires to Send you out to your unique mission field. This means that we believe that each of us has a general calling (to salvation and to serve Christ) and a specific calling (a purpose for being on the planet).

Beginning in the summer of 2014, WindCity Church has been and is committed to reaching the un-churched and those that are apart from Christ with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We are committed to making disciples and equipping those disciples to live the Christian Life. Our desire is to be a multiplying church that grows through disciple-making and multiplication. This means that we are, and expect to continue to be, a part of planting many other churches around Wyoming and the World.

We value Community (Doing life together as we love God and love our neighbors). We value Compassion (Caring for the needs of those around us just as God has cared for us). We value the Great Commission (Joining in Jesus’ Mission to make and equip disciples). We value Celebration (Experiencing the joys of the Christian Life as God has planned) and we commit to Celebrate and Worship Christ in weekly corporate gatherings and daily devotion. We commit to Connect and Serve in Missional Communities weekly to grow in Word and Action. We commit to Contribute generously of our time, talents and treasure so that The Gospel is shared regularly, personally and corporately to see God’s Kingdom come in Wyoming as it is in Heaven.

Our Community agrees with and follows these Doctrinal Statements as recorded at http://www.sbc.net/bfm2000/bfm2000.asp as well as the Beliefs you can read about on that section of our website. We agree to act in love and grace in all of these Statements/beliefs as well as areas outside of these Statements of Faith. We recognize that hatred of our own personal sin is Biblical but that we are to love others as Christ has loved us (John 13:34-35).What we believe shapes how we live. Beliefs are more than head knowledge (Knowing) but are the foundations that develop our heart condition (Loving) whereby we act (Obediently Serving).

We will follow Jesus together by:

PROTECT THE UNITY OF YOUR CHURCH

By acting in love toward other members ...By refusing to gossip...By following the leaders.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs...” Eph. 4:29

“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17

SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR CHURCH

By praying for its growth ...By inviting the unchurched to follow Christ and join our family ...By warmly welcoming those who are our guests.

“To the church...we always thank God for you and pray for you constantly.” 1 Thess. 1:2

“Go out into the country...and urge anyone you find to come in, so that My House will be full.” Luke 14:23

“So, warmly welcome each other into the church, just as Christ has warmly welcomed you; then God will be glorified.” Rom. 15:7

SERVE THE MINISTRY OF YOUR CHURCH

By discovering my gifts and talents ...By being equipped to serve...By developing a servant’s heart.

“Serve one another with the particular gifts God has given each of you...” 1 Peter 4:10

And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ...who took on the very nature of a servant...” Phil 2:3-4, 7

SUPPORT THE TESTIMONY OF YOUR CHURCH

By attending faithfully...By living a godly life ...By giving regularly...By living in Christian Accountability & Discipline.

“Let us not give up the habit of meeting together...but let us encourage one another.” Heb 10:25
“But whatever happens, make sure that your everyday life is worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Phil. 1:27 (Ph)

“Each one of you, on the first day of each week, should set aside a specific sum of money in proportion to what you have earned and use it for the offering.” 1 Corinthians 16:2

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17

Covenant Membership of any church does not give you entrance into heaven or salvation.  Salvation comes through a saving relationship with Christ alone.  To become a member at WindCity you must receive Christ as Lord and Savior and be scripturally baptized by immersion.  If that has already been accomplished then you must share that testimony with our Elder Team prior to membership. Then being in agreement with WindCity Church’s Story, Statements and Structure, if you feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with WindCity Church family you commit yourself to God and to the other members in this Covenant.”

Multiplication

As our church is built upon the Biblical Model as seen in the New Testament (primarily the Book of Acts), we expect to see New Testament results and that means multiplication. The Book of Acts documents the early church being successful at bringing thousands to Faith in Christ as they met in home communities and were actively sharing their faith. Wyoming is full of many thousands of people that are apart from Faith in Christ. We hope to always be starting new Churches and Missional Communities and looking for new places to show God’s Compassion and training new leaders. We want to always be MULTIPLYING.

Multiplication comes at the cost of comfort. To grow, that means that things will change and adapt along the way. It means that we will always be looking to send out new leaders from within established groups. We know this is not easy but we know this is Biblical.

We believe that the local church is God’s means to make an impact on the community and when people follow Jesus together in the context of a local church community that God changes lives! Because of these beliefs, WindCity created and now partners with Forever West Church Planting Network to be a part of God’s church planting movement all across Wyoming.

This Network is constantly looking to be a part of new churches by:
- Preparing leaders to be a part of new church starts
- Sending out church planters and leaders to their unique mission field
- Supporting church plants financially as well as with ongoing leadership development and encouragement WindCity supports this Network with as much of our church giving as possible.

WindCity strives to Multiply by training and support disciples as they grow. This may not always mean that every person becomes a church planter or a pastor but does mean that we strive to Equip every person to be a whole- hearted disciple of Jesus and to follow Him where they live, work and play.

How WindCity is organized and led

“Elders lead the church [1 Tim 5:17; Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:1–2], teach and preach the Word [1 Timothy 3:2; 2 Timothy 4:2; Titus 1:9], protect the church from false teachers [Acts 20:17, 28–31], exhort and admonish the saints in sound doctrine [1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 3:13–17; Titus 1:9], visit the sick and pray [James 5:14; Acts 6:4], and judge doctrinal issues [Acts 15:6]. In biblical terminology, elders shepherd, oversee, lead, and care for the local church”. Further, Elders (and their roles) will be defined in our Church Constitution in this way:

WindCity Church is an Elder-Led Church. Elders are appointed from within the membership of the church. Elders are called by God to perform a function, not merely hold an office or position and are responsible to care for and lead the flock through the general oversight of the church, teaching the church, protecting the church, praying for the church, equipping the church, and modeling godliness to the church. Elders will serve continuously as long as they possess the character qualities of an Elder and fulfill the standards of leadership and service. Each Elder shall be reviewed annually by the Elder team to re-evaluate character and effectiveness. Any elder may resign by written notification to the remaining Elders. Any Elder(s) may be removed with or without cause by the unanimous decision of the remaining Elders. There shall at all times be a plurality of elders with no maximum limit. The Elders shall consistently seek to identify and develop others as future Elders.

Our church will be led like a family and the Elders are the Family leaders. They will be men of prayer, praise and study. They will gather great information from the Body prior to decisions. They will excel in regard to communication to the Body and to the Community. They will seek peace. They will carry the banner of Christ above all and will hold the vision of WindCity for others to see and follow.

The Elders will perform the duties of administration and financial management for the church and will utilize an annual budget to lead WindCity Church in financial matters. This budget will be gathered prior to our Annual Members Meeting and will serve as a roadmap of ministry for the upcoming year. Elders will stay in close communication with one-another and with the faith family through an ongoing ministry plan developed together. Elders will have periodic meetings together (at least quarterly) and then may have further meetings when and if Ministry Teams are in place that fall within their area of service.

The Elders will be a band of brothers fighting the good fight of faith together in leadership of WindCity Church so that we Honor God, are led by The Holy Spirit and ultimately follow Jesus together as a faith family. Elders will hold up The Scriptures within our simple structure and strive to appoint, equip and raise up leaders to do all that God has called them to do!

Last Things

In His own time and way, God will bring this current world to an end when Jesus will return as King to judge all those (living and dead).

The Dead will be raised and Christ will judge all men in Righteousness. Those displaying Christ Righteousness will be given their reward of eternal life with God where they will Marvel in His Majesty forever. Those counting on their own Righteousness and goodness will be sent to everlasting punishment in hell (separation from God for eternity) where they will experience Meaningless Misery forever.

For the followers of Jesus, final victory in my life will be met with these words from my Savior “Well done, My good and faithful servant”. The righteous, in their resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

Grace and Assurance

God’s grace is displayed in God’s goodness to us.

- It is God’s Common Grace to give all people life.
- It is God’s Saving Grace to give us the offer of salvation through His Son - Jesus.

Once we accept God’s gracious salvation in Christ, we are to endure to the end as accepted and sanctified followers. We may fall into sin through spiritual neglect but will never fall away from God’s grace if we have been truly saved.

When saved followers of Jesus fall into sin:

- They grieve the Spirit,
- They impair their graces and comforts,
- They bring reproach on the cause of Christ
- They bring temporal judgments on themselves

Yet the truly saved will be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

Baptism

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead.

  • When we truly believe the Gospel and commit to Christ as our Lord and our Savior, then Jesus would have us declare publicly our Faith in Him. Matthew 10:32-33

  • Jesus Commands Baptism. It is not a suggestion or an option for His followers. If we are not baptized then we are in a position of disobedience. Matthew 28:19-20

  • Jesus set the example by being baptized Himself where He identified with sinful humanity. Matt 3:13-17

  • Since baptism is a command of God, then baptism is an act of obedience that declares your faith in God -1 John

    2:3

  • When you follow the Commandments of God, you express Your Love for Jesus - John 14:21

  • New Followers of Christ were baptized in the early church - Acts 2:37-47 and Acts 8:26-40

  • Baptism is a picture of two things. The first is what Jesus did for you - He died for your sins, was buried and came

back to life - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. The second is what has happened to you - You died to an old way of life and

have been raised to live a new life in Jesus - Romans 6:1-5

  • We do not believe that baptism is required for salvation because salvation does not come by works - Ephesians

2:1-10. However, if a person claims to be a follower of Christ and is disobedient in His first command of baptism

then that person should question whether they have genuinely come to saving faith in Christ.

  • Prior to the life of Jesus there was the baptism of John (Mark 1:4) – as John the Baptist preached repentance of

sins in preparation for the coming of the Messiah, he baptized people in the Jordan. Those who were baptized by John were showing their faith in John’s message and their need to confess their sin. In Acts 18:24–25, a disciple of John’s named Apollos preaches in Ephesus; however, only knowing the baptism of John and the need for repentance, he needed to be further instructed in the death and resurrection of Christ. Later in the same city, Acts 19:1–7, Paul encounters some more followers of John. These disciples had been baptized for repentance, but they had not heard of the new birth or the Holy Spirit. Paul taught them the whole message of salvation in Christ, and they received the message and were subsequently baptized in Jesus’ name.

  • The baptism of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13–14; 1 Corinthians 12:13) – John also predicted that Jesus would baptize men with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11). This is a spiritual baptism, and it is the baptism that saves us. At salvation, we are “immersed” in the Holy Spirit. The Spirit covers us, indwells us, fills us, and makes us a part of the spiritual body of Christ. The baptism of the Spirit is what initiates us into new life in Christ. The first people to experience the baptism of the Spirit were the believers in Acts 2 on the Day of Pentecost. The spiritual entity known as the body of Christ is formed by this baptism: “We were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13).

  • Water baptism is for believers. Before we are baptized, we must come to believe that we are sinners in need of salvation (Romans 3:23). We must also believe that Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins, that He was buried, and that He was resurrected to assure our place in heaven (1 Corinthians 15:1–4). When we turn to Jesus, asking Him to forgive our sins and be our Lord and Savior, we are born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our eternal salvation is guaranteed, and we begin to die to ourselves and live for Christ (1 Peter 1:3–5). At that time we are scripturally qualified to be baptized.

  • The fact that water baptism is not a prerequisite for salvation is best seen in the example of a saved man who was not baptized in water—the criminal on the cross (Luke 23:39–43). This self-confessed sinner acknowledged Jesus as his Lord while dying on a cross next to Him. The thief asked for salvation and was forgiven of his sins.

Your Life Matters

Ephesians 2:10 - We are God’s Masterpiece, God has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.

God created me for His purposes not my desires. (Isaiah 43:7)

I serve God Almighty and my life is not my own. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Because of my brokenness, my desires tempt me. (1 John 2:16)

With God’s Spirit’s help I will override and overcome my desires and live every day to accomplish His will. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

I gain my security, success and significance thru my surrender to God’s plan. (Mark 8:35)

My obedience to Him and His Word is the key to my joy. (John 12:26)

My time, talents and treasure are 100% His to use as He guides me to obey so I will glorify God in how I steward these blessings. (Romans 12:6-8)

God Made us to Know, Love & Serve Him. Our Fall into Sin, Marred us so that must be Mended by Christ to live in His Light, Love and Life. Once Mended, we are given the gift of God’s Holy Spirit to Morph us as we surrender to Him. A Morphed person recognizes that Your Life Matters and that it belongs to God. From that vantage, you will steward every resource for His Glory and purpose.
